Six dual processor 64bit AMD Opteron workstations running Linux have been built for the purpose of supplementing the computing resources available to users with uoregon.edu accounts. All users with access to shell.uoregon.edu can use these systems. uoregon.edu home directories are accessible here, as is the /scratch directory from shell (previously darkwing) mounted as /darkwing-scratch. A local scratch directory mounted as /scratch is available for requirements that exceed the size of your uoregon.edu home directory. The local scratch directory is shared between all six systems and is 735GB in size compared to shell's 80GB scratch dir.
The current host compliment is:

On Saturday, July 28th 2007, Information Services will be converting the primary authentication method for the Acad-Cluster to our new LDAP centralized authentication mechanism.
This means that you will need to login to the cluster with your DuckID information after the 28th of July. YOUR CURRENT PASSWORD MAY NO LONGER WORK AFTER THE 28TH. You will need to use your DuckID credentials to access the cluster after this date.
Additionally, the cluster will be unavailable for a short period of time sometime between 11am and 6pm on the 28th. All running jobs will be killed.
For more information please visit:
You no longer need to request an account - all users with access to shell.uoregon.edu can login to the cluster with the same username and password.
Access to the cluster is available principally using the ssh protocol. A brief overview on using ssh on Windows and MacOS is available here. The hostnames and ip addresses of the systems currently are as follows:

/home1 - uoregon.edu home filesystems. Your home-directory will be in the
/home2 same location as on darkwing Be mindful that default quotas on
/home3 the home filesystems are typically 1 GB and things placed in your
/home4 home-directory here will affect your quota on shell and other
/home5 hosts.

/home11

/scratch-darkwing - The scratch disk on shell (previously darkwing). Available
for anyone to use. Files unused for more than a month will
be expunged as is current policy. Files placed here are
accessible on shell. Space available there is 80GB.
/scratch - Cluster-local scratch disk. No expiration date for files placed here.
Filesystem should not be presumed to be backed-up at any given time.
/tmp - Local to each node. Files placed here should be of a temporary nature only.
The temp directory will be expunged between rebootes which are expected to
be fairly infrequent. Space available is 18GB per node for acad-cl1 through
acad-cl4 and 36GB for acad-cl5 and acad-cl6.
